National Survey

The purpose of this survey is to learn more about the characteristics and qualities of outdoor programs offered to young people in Australia. We’re interested in building a clear picture of what happens on these programs.

When we talk about outdoor programs we mean planned experiences in which groups of young people take part in organised activities often involving adventure, and based mainly in natural, outdoor settings. Examples might include a 1-day activity program, a week-long residential camp, or an extended outdoor expedition.

There are two parts to this survey.

Part 1 asks you to think about a specific, recent (last 6 months) outdoor program on which you worked as a leader. Complete this part of the survey if you worked directly with participants in actually delivering the program.

Part 2 asks general questions about the typical outdoor programs offered by your organisation. Complete this part of the survey if your work involves overseeing, coordinating or managing staff and outdoor programs.
Depending on your work role, you might answer Part 1 only, Part 2 only, or both parts.

Please choose one of the following options:

My work involves direct contact with participants while delivering outdoor programs. I can answer specific questions about the last outdoor program I worked on with young people.

My work involves overseeing and managing outdoor programs for young people. I can answer general questions about the types of outdoor programs run by my organisation.

My work involves both direct contact with participants and managing outdoor youth programs. I will answer questions in both parts of the survey.

My work does not involve any of the above.
